Op-Ed: There Are So Many Numbers Out There… Letters, Not So Much
Think about it… There are only 26 letters in the English alphabet. The longest word is “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” which is 34 letters long… but what about the longest number?
Any number can be made using the digits 0-9, meaning there are INFINITE possibilities. 256 is a number… 5869686 is a number… 7685983393839 is a number… There’s just so many options and no restraints. How could you not call this the greatest human creation of all time? Do letters have their own version of “infinity”, an endless quantity that is so large it can’t be truly determined? No! Where’s the mystery? Where’s the complex man-made concept that we humans love so much?
We can mash numbers together to make even bigger numbers… but we can’t make “more letters.” Those are just words. Not to mention, words have rules, and we can’t just put any letters together because it has to make “grammatical sense”… whatever that means.
Our world is a little too letter-dominated, and our language capabilities would improve if we incorporated more numbers into our speech. Let’s start by replacing “Hello” with “1”. “Hello there” could be “12”. It might take some getting used to, but I believe this change is possible if we all try.
With that being said, 374! (Translated: Thanks for reading!)
